Message from the President of the United States on the 2010 Census
The White House
“Every 10 years, our Constitution requires the federal government to conduct a census. This helps determine your representation in Congress, as well as how federal funds are spent on things like schools and roads, and where businesses decide to put new stores and factories. So when you get your census form in mid-March, take about 10 minutes to answer 10 questions — remembering to include everyone in your household. Because we can’t move forward until you mail it back.”
ABOUT THE 2010 CENSUS
The 2010 Census is a count of everyone living in the United States and is mandated by the U.S. Constitution. Census data are used to apportion congressional seats to states, to distribute more than $400 billion in federal funds to tribal, state and local governments each year and to make decisions about what community services to provide. The 2010 Census form will be one of the shortest in U.S. history, consisting of 10 questions, taking about 10 minutes to complete. Strict confidentiality laws protect the respondents and the information they provide.

Just wanted to congratulate Gretchen Steele and Brad Hirte on their recent accomplishments. It has been nice the past two weeks reading about Coulterville people doing good in the news. Gretchen has received awards for her wonderful photography and Brad Hirte has been recognized for his service to the people of Haiti through his job. Both great articles and its people like them that make Coulterville a great place. If you haven’t read either of these articles be sure to check them out in the Sparta Paper and County Journal

As seen in a recent County Journal article the Boy Scouts of America are looking to form a troop in the Coulterville area. Mr. John Nelzen District Executive of the Kaskaskia District has approached the Chamber for assistance. We are in need of at least 4 individuals who are interested in Boy Scouts to get the program started. If you are interested or have any questions please feel free to contact myself, Danny Ruppert (Chamber President) at bcl@wildblue.net, or John Nelzen (Boy Scouts) at jnelzen@bsamail.org.
On January 22, 2010 former employee Orval Harvey passed away. Orval will be missed greatly he served the village for many years at our water plant. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family for their loss
On Wednesday January 21 Phoenix Graphix’s Print Shop was destroyed by fire. This is a great lost to the business community of Coulterville as Phoenix Graphix’s served many people in Coulterville and the surrounding area. Phoenix Graphix’s was also very civic minded as they supported many projects within Coulterville including the Coulterville Holiday Light Display. Over the past 5 years Phoenix Graphix’s has donated hundreds of dollars worth of supplies to the Light Display. The Village of Coulterville looks forward to the rebuilding of Phoenix Graphix’s and appreciates thier support and dedication to our community over the years.
